Counselling Services
START is a specialist non-government organisation social service that has significant experience in the field of sexual abuse recovery work with child, youth and adult victims of sexual crime. START offers specialist and professional sexual abuse counselling. This is subsidised and where possible, free to service users. START provides family work services and support to whanau free of charge, alongside victim counselling. START provides consultation regarding sexual abuse issues to members of both the general and professional community free of charge. START provides low cost educational workshops regarding concerns of sexual abuse to members of the professional and general community. START is committed to client confidentiality however this is limited when we have safety concerns. This means that if START becomes aware of situations where children, young persons or adults are at risk, appropriate action will be taken.
Our services include: ACC – Sexual abuse Crisis response – Immediate response, counselling support to survivors or victims of sexual violence, providing short term support, safety support, relocation, support with DSAC, Police and Court Te Roopu Matua Wahine – Parenting education Youth Development – Individual youth work, following Youth Justice FGC Child Witnessing – Programme or one on one for children that have witnessed family violence Youth at risk – Service for youth 17 years and under who have experienced domestic violence, and are at risk of offending or re-offending
Since 1984 Stopping Violence Services (SVS) has provided community and mandated interventions to stop family violence. SVS provides interventions for male and female, youth and adults. Interventions may involve individual or group programmes, whanau, psychosocial, and couples. SVS clinicians have a background in social work, counselling, education, psychology and belong to professional organisations. The Enabling Youth programme can help youth discover OK ways to deal with problems of frustration, stress and anger safely.
We provide no cost professional counselling, family work, group courses for adults and children/young persons.
We provide a variety of services to anyone affected by a loved one’s addiction. This ranges from one on one counselling, support and education through to intensive outpatient programmes. Our staff consists of trained and experienced consumers, providing clients with first hand support and knowledge. We give men time to talk about what they are dealing with and come up with a plan. That plan could involve anything from seeing a counsellor, rushing you to some emergency support, or planning a fishing trip with a friend. We make sure you know your options and choose the ones you think will work for you. We are fine with giving advice when we have it to give as well. We have experienced counsellors as well as student counsellors and are able to provide a range of options to men at affordable costs, free for those that don’t have other options (subject to available counsellors).
