A 12 step support fellowship for families and friends of alcoholics. We can offer hope and support to those affected by someone else’s drinking. Daily meetings, telephone support, one on one sponsorship and literature.
Nova aims to assist the person who has chronic dependency on alcohol and/or drugs to achieve wellness and reintegrate themselves back into their community. Individual counselling and educational groups are available. Three to six months residential activities and work skills programme provides regional addiction community support with accommodation. Odyssey House has been running in Christchurch since 1985. The goal is to assist those suffering from the problems associated with substance abuse and addiction; to change negative, self-defeating behavioural, emotional and cognitive patterns towards positive, self-enhancing ones resulting in pro-social values, attitudes and conduct. Residential Adult Male Alcohol and Drug (AOD) Programme: 17+ years of age. Includes post programme outreach support. Agency referral required. Residential Youth Male and Female AOD Programme: 14-18 years of age. Includes post programme outreach support. Agency referral required. Youth Male and Female AOD Day Programme: 13-18 years of age. Includes post programme outreach support. Agency referral required. AOD Assessment Service: Adult alcohol and drug assessment and treatment in the community and in the prison system. Driving Change Group: A recidivist drink driving group for people with three or more EBA (excess breath/blood alcohol) convictions. AOD Support Groups: ‘24/7’ – A rational recovery based support group, and ‘Friday Group’ – a support group focus on planning for the weekend. Community Youth Mental Health and AOD Service: 13-18 year old male or female youth can be agency or self-referred for treatment/counselling/support for mental health and/or alcohol and other drugs issues. Youth AOD Groups in Te Puna Wai: Child, Youth and Family (CYF) youth justice residence. 65 Alive: A coexisting capable service for people over 65 who experience significant alcohol and/or other drug issues. We support other services working with older people experiencing alcohol and other drug issues. Methamphetamine Help: A phone based counselling service for people experiencing a problem relating to methamphetamine.
The Bridge is an alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment service offering: Te Awhina: Daily recovery support groups Monday to Friday. Continuing care, peer support and sober activities. Self-referrals welcome. Bridge Education Programme: Five-week education, treatment and support programme Nga Kakano: Six-week women’s intensive programme Intensive (Residential and Day): Eight-week treatment programme including individual support, education and group work Family/Whānau Services: Support for the families of clients engaged in the Intensive (Residential and Day) Programme Meth Family Support Group: Facilitated monthly in the evening. Self-referral. West Coast AOD Services: Assessment, Bridge Education Programme, Intensive Day Programme, support groups and peer support.
Confidential information, advice and referral service for people with questions about their own or someone elses drinking or drug use. Callers can access brief interventions while those needing ongoing counselling are referred to appropriate local services.

AA is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other so that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. We hold over 60 meetings throughout Christchurch and the only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. AA memberships are free as we are self supporting through our own contributions. AA is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organisation or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy, neither do we endorse nor oppose any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety
He Waka Tapu is a kaupapa Māori service located in Christchurch. We focus on working with whānau and individuals that want positive health and wellness outcomes. Staff have formal qualifications in law, management, nursing, health promotion, social work, counselling and administration. The organisation is a leader in the utilisation of online tools to support whaiora in their recovery.
Overeaters Anonymous (OA) is a twelve step programme for men and women who support each other in solving their common problem of compulsive eating including anorexia, bulimia, obesity and overeating. The primary purpose of OA is to carry the message that recovery is possible. OA members are not experts about obesity, weight loss or food addiction. “We simply want to share our experience, strength and hope with others who desire our help and support.”
The Problem Gambling Foundation (PGF) is the largest single treatment provider for problem gambling in Australasia. Qualified counsellors provide free, professional and confidential counselling for gamblers and others affected by gambling. The Southern Team offer face-to-face counselling in Christchurch, Timaru, Geraldine, Waimate and Dunedin. For other areas we offer phone, Skype and email counselling. Our dedicated health promoters work in the community to raise awareness of harmful gambling and can assist other services with developing policy on reducing gambling harm and screening of problem gambling.
