Consumers with complex needs, sub-acute, continuing care and rehabilitation needs are provided with individual treatment programmes based upon the principles of the Recovery Process. The primary function of the team is to assist individuals to achieve their full potential and facilitate possible placement in the community.
Provides adult specialist mental health services to areas more than 45 minutes from Christchurch. The team provides home based treatment and rural clinics. Consultation, support and education groups for primary health care and NGO community services.
The aim of this service is to improve the delivery and quality of health services to tangata whaiora (Maori consumers of mental health services), primarily through the mahi of 20 Pukenga Atawhai (Maori Mental Health Workers) employed in a number of multidisciplinary clinical teams. The philosophy of the service is Whanaungatanga – a concept which not only acknowledges that our work is not done in isolation but as a member of a whanau; whanaungatanga also acknowledges the importance of tangata whaiora being members of a whanau.
A specialist treatment service for young people (18-30) experiencing a first presentation of psychosis. A range of services are offered both on-site and in the community which include: intensive case management; individual and group treatment; education and support for clients and families/whanau.
The Canterbury DHB provides a Single Point of Entry Service (SPOE) for initial contact to streamline the way people are referred to adult mental health services. You can contact SPOE if you are a consumer, family member, GP, or community service and have a general enquiry about mental health services or issues, or if you are worried about your mental health or you are worried about the mental health of a friend or family member. The service will provide initial advice, take referrals for Canterbury DHB adult mental health services as well as forward other referrals to the appropriate service, book assessments for Adult Community Teams, and forward emergency needs to the Psychiatric Emergency Service (PES). Sal Faid coordinates the provision of consumer input and advice to all the Specialist Mental Health Services with particular emphasis on policy and planning, service development and delivery, and evaluation. John, along with other members of the team, use a wide range of methods and work constructively with the clinical and administrative staff and service users with the overall aim of improving the quality of service provision for consumers.
The ROSC team completes support plans and reviews for any adult with experience of mental illness living in supported accommodation or receiving enhanced mobile support. The ROG (residential and enhanced mobile options group) members, who consist of NGO managers of supported accommodation and enhanced mobile support as well as ROSC team members meet regularly to discuss all referrals from clinical teams for clients who require supported accommodation or enhanced mobile support to live in the community and/or alternatives to residential support.
