This service provides specialist community and inpatient mental health services, including assessment, treatment and education, for individuals and their families. It also provides consultation and liaison for general practitioners, schools and key allied health and social service agencies as well as providing inpatient services to the South Island and a consultation service to North and South Canterbury. All outpatient referrals to the service are centrally received at CAFLink. This includes referrals to the CAF North and CAF South Community and Outreach Teams. As well as providing an easily identifiable point of entry to services, CAFLink ensures better quality and more consistent information to referrers, young people and their families. Referrals are centrally processed and this includes screening, referral to community agencies and triage into the service. CAFEm (CAF Emergency Team) Beside Heathcote Building, The Princess Margaret Hospital P: 0800 218 219 – option 2 Manages in-hours emergency presentations for children and adolescents up to the age of 18 years, between the hours of 8.30am and 4.30pm. Please call first. NB: CAFLink is the referral centre for non-emergency enquiries. CAF Day Unit Ground Floor, The Princess Margaret Hospital P: 03 337 7773 The Child Adolescent and Family Day Unit offers comprehensive assessments and brief but intensive support and treatment to consumers aged up to 18 years. Consumers may be experiencing an acute deterioration in their mental health or require additional assessment and family support. CAF Inpatient Unit Ground Floor, The Princess Margaret Hospital P: 03 337 7773 A specialist regional (South Island) treatment and assessment facility with 16 beds. Children and adolescents who have severe psychiatric, emotional behavioural or developmental disorders are assessed and/or treated. There is also provision for family members to live-in, to enable them to be part of their child’s treatment programme. Referrals can be made by a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist from one of the South Island District Health Boards. Crisis Resolution (CR) offers after hours and urgent psychiatric assistance. CR is an integral part of each Adult Community Mental Health Team providing 24 hour advice and assessment for people presenting in crisis which is associated with a known or suspected mental health problem. A mobile service is available. Duly Authorised Officers available 24 hours for psychiatric Mental Health Act assessments. Referral to access CR can be made by any member of the public, including self-referral, family, friends, general practitioners and community agencies. Referrals are through Single Point of Entry within the hours of Monday to Friday, 8.00 to 4.30pm.    

Long Description:

The Customer Services Coordinator for Specialist Mental Health Service and Older Persons Health Services is responsible for managing all aspects of the CDHB Complaints Policy and Procedure for this service. They are also responsible for coordinating, designing and analysing consumer satisfaction surveys, and for establishing and maintaining Interpreter Information Packs and the database for the use of both services. The Customer Services Coordinator is also one of the CDHB designated Privacy Officers and is available for in-service training in both the Health Information Privacy Code and the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers Rights.
