Skylight also facilitates their access to expert information, education, professional services and support. We also educate, train and support professionals, agencies and individuals who assist those dealing with trauma, loss and grief. Aviva is a Canterbury-based, specialist family and sexual violence agency, which is dedicated to making New Zealand Aotearoa violence-free. Grounded within a spirit of positivity and potential, Aviva offers an extensive range of integrated, specialist services that support all individuals and family members to overcome family and sexual violence and achieve wellbeing. The commitment to keep improving New Zealand’s response to family violence has driven Aviva to create a wide range of support services which are offered in the belief that everyone has the potential to overcome the effects of inter-personal violence, with the right support. Our services include: 0800 AVIVA NOW (0800 28482 669), a free phone line for anyone needing safety, information or advice 24-hours a day Individual support for women, children, young people and men, and help accessing other agencies/services Family safety planning Access to Ministry of Justice approved education programmes Safe@home, which improves the physical security of the homes of those who are at highest risk of repeat family violence ReachOut specialist support for men who have caused family violence Specialist peer support from those who have overcome family violence to others on their own journey. Peer support training is also available for those who wish to support others in their own community No and low interest loans for those who are on limited incomes and cannot access mainstream finance Community development, education and training Sexual Assault Support Service Canterbury (SASSC; provided in partnership with START) provides 24/7 support for adult victims of recent or historic rape and/or sexual assault Aviva’s services are delivered by compassionate, professionally qualified staff who understand family and sexual violence and the challenges you are facing. Advocacy and Support; We help guide adults and teenagers to navigate through some of life’s difficult situations. Child protection specialists.
Community based suppot for parents who are experiencing a decline in mental wellbeing relating to, or resulting from, pregnancy, childbirth and parenting within the first 1,000 days (pregnancy to three years). Facilitated Support Groups: Safe space for mums with perinatal depression and anxiety to connect and acknowledge their stuggles. They learn a variety of practical tools and strategies to enable them to take back control of their lives and manage their mental wellbeing. Police vetted volunteers are present to take care of the children while the mums are in group. Playgroup: Parents with a decline in perinatal mental wellbeing come together in a safe place with others who know what they are experiencing and do not judge. Our facilitator is available to chat and playgroup is a great transition either before or after attending our support group. Support for Dads: Informal peer facilitated opportunity for fathers to meet for support, information and fellowship. Includes men who themselves are or whose partners are affected by perinatal mental wellbeing issues. Antenatal Group: Peer facilitated drop-in group that provides information and support. No referral required.
PlunketLine is a toll-free parent helpline and advice service available to all families, whānau and caregivers. Calls are free from cellphones and you don’t have to be registered with Plunket to access or use PlunketLine services. All calls will be answered by a Plunket nurse, who can give you advice and information on parenting issues and your child’s health and wellbeing.
